U.S.C.G. Sycamore Family Housing
This project replaced 20 units of existing family housing with 26 units (13 Duplexes) of new housing for Coast Guard families stationed in Cordova, Alaska.. The project involved all levels of vertical construction on a small parcel of land with challenging topography. Phase I involved construction of new units on undeveloped land while accommodating Coast Guard families currently living immediately adjacent to the site. Phase II involved abating and demolishing the current housing units, after the families had relocated into Phase I units, and constructing new units in place of those removed. This included a playground shelter and equipment, an exterior playground area, and a handicapped accessible ramp to the existing housing area's community building. The new units were certified LEED Silver. Highly complex logistics and coordination challenges were involved in constructing units in this remote Alaskan community. UNIT served as Prime Subcontractor to Bethel Services, Inc.
